Spring is that time of year when we give our homes the once over and assess any winter damage, figure out what needs to be done, and schedule the work so our homes are in tip-top shape by the end of fall.
Use the checklist below to get your home spring-ready.
□ Install new batteries in smoke alarms & carbon monoxide detectors
□ Test & dust all detectors
□ Replace furnace filter
□ Inspect bathroom & kitchen caulking re-caulk as needed
□ Test kitchen & bathroom exhaust fans
□ Clean kitchen exhaust hood & filter
□ Vacuum refrigerator coils
□ Schedule air conditioning inspection Check fire extinguishers (at least once a month)
□ Clean gutters, check for leaks & make sure they are attached securely
□ Clean & seal deck (if needed)
□ Check the foundation for cracks & leaks
□ Check exterior paint & touch up as needed
□ Check siding & masonry for damage & schedule repairs
□ Remove storm windows & install screens
□ Repair/replace damaged window screens Inspect caulking around windows-if cracking recaulk
□ Check the roof for damage & schedule reroofing if needed
□ Check the attic for leaks, mould, moisture intrusion, fire hazards & critters
□ Get rid of surface mould with ‘Concrobium Mold Control’
□ Schedule annual septic tank inspection Schedule annual dryer exhaust cleaning & checkup
□ Check water heater for leaks (schedule inspection if older than 5 years)
□ Schedule a maintenance and/or energy efficiency inspection
